I first experienced a WS camp as a Ranger in 1984 and have many happy memories of that camp. My next encounter with a WS wasn’t until 2008 when 2 of my daughters attended and came home eager to tell of their experiences. In 2013 I attended as a leader with a small group of 5 Guides before a chance conversation led to me being joint lead for activities in 2017 – an amazing and rewarding experience co-ordinating activities for 2000 young people.

I am a Rainbow & Brownie leader in Worthing and an assistant county commissioner with responsibility for volunteer experience for Sussex West. I am also working towards my trainer qualification.

I’ve had several ‘mountain top moments’ through Girlguiding including

  • carrying the flame of Guiding in a small plane from Shoreham to Goodwood as part of our 75th birthday celebrations
  • being part of  a Guard of Honour for Princess Margaret when she visited Chichester Festival Theatre
  • Taking part in the Lord Mayors Show
  • Feeding the 5000 participants of the Lord Mayors Show

I now get great enjoyment from helping to provide opportunities for others.

Outside of Guiding I have 5 daughters (2 of whom are leaders) and 5 grandchildren. I work in an infant school where I primarily support those who find school challenging.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone at WSIJ2025 and the memories being deputy camp chief will create.
